2020 Big 'M' Recipient

Time to do it again, folks! We’re busy gearing up for the 14th Annual Big ‘M’ Memorial Benefit, and we are pleased to announce that we have selected this year's Big 'M' recipient!

The proceeds of this year’s event will be donated to long time Valley resident Mike Schwochert. Mike has called Alaska his home since the age of 9 and today, at the age of 58, he finds himself facing a tremendous battle against stage 4 prostate/bone cancer. The financial burden that accompanies such a battle is immense. Medical expenses, treatments, and everyday necessities all contribute to the mounting costs Mike and his family face. It is in times like these that we, as a compassionate community, have an opportunity to make a profound difference in someone's life. We hope to raise money to assist Mike in any way we can.

Despite the challenges he faces, Mike remains an inspiration to all who know him. He is a man of diverse interests and passions, ranging from fishing and skiing to race car driving and motorcycling. These hobbies have not only brought him joy but have also connected him with a remarkable group of friends whom he considers his brothers. They share an unbreakable bond and demonstrate unwavering support, checking in on Mike almost daily.

Currently, Mike spends his days embracing the joy of being a grandfather to four precious grandchildren. His sons, Alex and Andy, have taken on the role of his caretakers, ensuring that he receives the support and care he needs during this challenging time.  Despite the uncertainty that lies ahead, Mike remains hopeful for a recovery, cherishing the few and far between good days amidst the struggles.

The Benefit is scheduled for Saturday, August 12th at the Mug-Shot Saloon. We encourage anyone interested in being involved to contact us.  If you'd like to be involved in any capacity, or for more information, please email us at mugshotak@gmail.com, or message us on Facebook.
